## Big Lakes County Bylaw

## CONSOLIDATION BYLAW
(Bylaw 05-2011 as amended by Bylaw 11-2012, 05-2014, 10-2015, 14-2018, 21-2019, 05-2020, 15-2021, and 03-2025)
WHEREAS, Section 69 of the Municipal Government Act, Revised Statutes of Alberta 2000, Chapter M-26, permits a Municipality, by bylaw, to authorize the consolidation of more than one bylaw of the Municipality; and
WHEREAS, under the provisions of Sections 106, 107 and 108 of the Traffic Safety Act, being Chapter T-6 of the revised statues of Alberta, 2000 and amendments thereto, authorizes the Council to establish maximum speed limits for highways subject to its direction, control and management; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Council of Big Lakes County, in the Province of Alberta deems it necessary to establish maximum speed limits for highways subject to its direction, control and management to be knows as "The Speed Limit Bylaw".
NOW THEREFORE, Council, duly assembled, hereby enacts that Bylaw 05-2011 is amended as follows:
## Title
This bylaw may be cited for all purposes as the "Speed Limit Bylaw"
## Definitions
- a. "Consolidation" means the incorporation of a bylaw and all amendments to it into a single document, including the deletion of provisions that have been repealed or which has expired.
- b. "Highway" for the purposes of this bylaw shall mean any road throughfare, street, avenue, lane, alley, bridge, parkway or other place or any part of them, under the direction and control of Big Lakes County, that the public is ordinarily entitled or permitted to use for the passage or parking of vehicles.
## Terms of Reference
## MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS ON LOCAL ROADS:
That a maximum speed limit of eighty (80) kilometers per hour be established for all highways subject to the direction, control and management of Big Lakes County except highways within hamlet boundaries established by bylaw which shall be at fifty (50) kilometers per hour and except highways as described below:

1. All that portion of road beginning from the southwest corner of Section 30, Township 74, Range 16, West of the Fifth Meridian (north corporate limits of High Prairie), thence northerly along the road 400 metres,

All that portion of road beginning at the end of pavement on the Hilliard's Bay access road (Township Road 752A) within northeast of Section 14, north half of Sections 13 and 18, northwest of Section 17 and southwest of Section 20, Township 75, Range 13, West of the Fifth Meridian (Hilliard's Bay Provincial Park),

All highways within the boundaries of the Hamlet of Joussard excepting thereout: Township Road 735A beginning at Highway 2 and continuing easterly approximately 590 meters to the Hamlet of Joussard boundary; Range Road 134 beginning at Highway 2 and continuing northerly approximately 1.8 km; Range Road 142 beginning from Highway 2 and continuing northerly to Township Road 742A; Township Road 742A beginning at Range Road 142 and continuing easterly to Range Road 140; and Range Road 140 beginning at Township Road 742A and continuing northerly to the end of municipal roadway,
