## VILLAGE OF BOYLE ## BYLAW 09-23 A BYLAW OF THE VILLAGE OF BOYLE IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA TO ESTABLISH ALTERNATE METHODS FOR ADVERTISING STATUTORY NOTICES. WHEREAS pursuant to section 7 of the Municipal Government Act, RSA 2000, c M-26, as amended, a municipality has jurisdiction to pass bylaws for municipal purposes respecting services provided by or on behalf of the municipality, WHEREAS pursuant to section 606 of the Municipal Government Act, a council must give notice of certain bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings or other things by advertising in a newspaper or other publication circulating in the area, mailing or delivering a notice to every residence in the affected area or by another method provided for in a bylaw under section 606.1, and WHEREAS pursuant to section 606.1(1) of the Municipal Government Act, a council may, by bylaw, provide for one or more methods, which may include electronic means, for advertising proposed bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings and other things referred to in section 606, and WHEREAS Council is satisfied that the advertising method set out in this Bylaw is likely to bring matters advertised by that method to the attention of substantially all residents in the area to which the bylaw, resolution or other thing relates or in which the meeting or hearing is to be held, NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Village of Boyle, in the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: ## Bylaw Title 1. This Bylaw may be cited as the "Advertising Bylaw." ## Definitions - Words in this Bylaw have the same meaning as those set out in the Municipal Government Act except as follows: - a. "Council" shall mean the elected Council of the Village of Boyle. - b. "Municipal Government Act" means the Municipal Government Act (MGA), RSA 2000, c M26, as amended or replaced from time to time. - c. "Notice" means a notice containing all the information required under section 606 of the MGA. - d. "Social Media" means any electronic online form of communication through which groups of users share information and content. - e. "Village" shall mean the Village of Boyle". ## Advertising Method 3. Any notice required to be advertised under section 606 of the MGA of a bylaw, resolution, meeting, public hearing or other thing may be given, in accordance with the timelines prescribed in section 606, by a minimum of any two (2) of the following advertising avenues: <!-- image --> - a. By posting on the Village's official website, - b. Electronically by posting the notice on any official Village social media platform. - c. By advertising in a newspaper circulated in the area, - d. By posting through the Village's opt-in communications, or - e. Via mail or delivery pursuant to section 606(2) (b) of the MGA ## Severability 4. Should any provision of this bylaw be invalid, then such invalid provision shall be severed, and the remaining bylaw shall be maintained. ## Effective 5. This Bylaw shall come into full force and effect upon third and final reading.
