To establish a policy regarding Unsightly Properties
1.0 Policy Statement and Guidelines
The Village values and promotes provision of a safe, orderly and amenable environment
for the benefit of all persons residing, working, recreating within or visiting the area. The policy
outlines procedures that acknowledge, expand upon and complement existing statutory
## provisions for the management of negative impacts arising from the neglect, dilapidation,
disrepair of derelict buildings and property.
All property owners or keepers of property within the Village of Chauvin are statutorily obliged to comply with the legislation detailed in this policy and subsequent directions given by the Village Council relating to securing cleaning and improvement works at substandard and derelict houses, buildings, and property.
1.1 Substandard Buildings and Vacant Land · Broken windows, doors, roofs and/or fence sheets which allow for the unauthorized access and use of a building or property · Use of the property for the unauthorized dumping of waste
## > Buildings that are structurally dangerous, neglected, and/or dilapidated
1.2 Prohibitions
- > Refuse, garbage, or other noxious, offensive or unwholesome material to
- accumulate on the property
- > Noxious weeds to grow or accumulate on the property

1.3 Removal
- Every owner and occupier of property shall remove, or cause to be removed, from the

Non-compliance
In the event the owner or occupier of the property fails to comply with section 1-3 of this
policy, and the owner or occupier of the property has been given an opportunity to appear
before Council to be heard in respect of such failure, the Village will apply a charge of
$250.00 per month until the property is cleaned as per section 1-3, as a debt against the
persons in default or in the same manner and with the same remedies as property taxes
