BY-LAW #2025-03
A BY-LAW TO AUTHORIZE COUNCIL TO AMEND BY-LAW # 2024-03
REGARDING UTILITY RATES.
WHEREAS the Council of the Village of Chauvin in the Province of Alberta, assembled
in duly constituted meeting deems it necessary that a new set of rates and regulations be
established for the use of the Village Water, Sewer, Garbage and Gas systems and
WHEREAS UNDER PROVISIONS OF THE Municipal Government Act being Chapter
M-26.1 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta 1994 (as amended) council has the authority to set
rates and regulations.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED that the rates for the various users shall be
those as set out hereunder:
Water
Residences, Stores, Offices & Garages,
$30.00/month for 20m3 and
$ 1.55/m3 for anything over 20m3
Arena, Hall and Curling Rink
$ 1.55/m3 - no minimum charge
Capital Water Infrastructure (Basic)
$ 5.00 per month
Sewer
Residences, Stores, Offices, Garages
$29.00 per month
Cafes and Car Washes
$29.00 per month
Hotels and Motels
$75.00 per month
Public School
$90.00 per month
Community Centre (Arena/Hall/Curling)
$29.00 per month
Capital Water Infrastructure
$ 5.00 per month
Garbage
Per site -
Excluding those with contracted bins
$31.00 per month
Contracted bin sites
$ 0.00 per month
Gas
For all residences and businesses:
Service Charge
$27.00 per month
Rate per gigajoule
$ 1.00 above the charge from
Gas Alberta.
Arena, Hall and Curling Rink

Phoenix Gas Co-Op
Capital Gas Infrastructure (Basic)
$ 5.00 per month
Water, sewer, garbage and gas bills to be rendered monthly and shall be due and payable when
rendered. Water, sewer, garbage and gas bills not paid by the penalty date indicated on the
utility bill shall be subject to a penalty of 5% per month.
The Village of Chauvin shall own and maintain all water meters registering water consumption
of the water customer from the street to the meter, including all components in the meter box.
The water customer shall own and maintain all lines on their property.
If water, sewer, garbage and gas bills are not paid within 30 days after the billing date, service
may be disconnected, and outstanding utility charges may be transferred to property owner's tax
account. A disconnection and re-connection fee of $50.00 each may also be charged.
This by-law becomes effective on January 1, 2026.
