BYLAW NO. 1100/AC/2024
A BYLAW FOR THE TOWN OF FAIRVIEW IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE PET THERAPY WITH CHICKENS BYLAW
Whereas,
pursuant to the Municipal Government Act, Chapter M-26, RSA 2000 and
amendments, a council may pass bylaws for municipal purposes:
(a) Respecting wild and domestic animals and activities in relation to them;
(b) Regulating or prohibiting activities; and
(c) Providing for a system of licences, permit or approvals; and
Whereas,
pursuant to Bylaw 1093/AC/2024 Pet Therapy with Chickens Pilot authorized to be
conducted by Alberta Health Services at Fairview Long Term Care for a one (1)
year period commencing February 20, 2024.
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Town of Fairview, duly assembled, enacts as follows:
1. Title
1.1.
This bylaw shall be cited as the "Pet Therapy with Chickens Bylaw".
2. Terms and Conditions
2.1.
Alberta Health Services is authorized to conduct a Pet Therapy with Chickens program at
Fairview Long Term Care and must:
a. Comply with the Bylaw 1077/ AC/2022 Animal & Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw of
the Town of Fairview, notwithstanding Part VI and Part VII.
b. Comply with Alberta Health Services Pet Therapy with Chickens and/or best practices
recommendations for Animals in Healthcare.
c. A licence must be obtained annually for each annual term the program is offered to a
maximum of 1 Animal Unit.
3. Severability
3.1.
If any portion of this Bylaw is declared invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, then the
invalid portion shall be severed.

4. Precedence
4.1.
This Bylaw supersedes and takes precedence over Bylaw 1093/AC/2024.
5. Effective Date
5.1.
This Bylaw shall come into force and effect upon third and final reading and is duly signed.
