In Alberta, a local government's powers and duties are given to them by the Province of Alberta under the Municipal Government Act. This Act gives authority to the Council of Municipalities to develop bylaws unique to the needs of residents and concern resolutions. Councils are expected to act in good faith and in the public interest when creating bylaws. Municipal administration should aim to create bylaws that are understandable, enforceable bylaws that accomplish Council's directive. Bylaws created by the Town of Fairview are regularly reviewed and updated by Council. All bylaws require three (3) readings by Council before they take effect. The Town encourages public participation on bylaws that have a significant effect on the residents of Fairview. Bylaws that are regulatory required to be advertised and / or hold a **public hearing** before Council may approve them, will be posted on the Town's website.
