A BYLAW TO BE KNOWN AS THE PUBLIC NOTIFICATION BYLAW

WHEREAS; pursuant to section 606 of the Municipal Government Act, R.S.A. 2000, c. M-26, a council
must give notice of certain bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings or other things by:
a. publishing the notice at least once a week for two consecutive weeks in at least one
newspaper or other publication circulating in the area to which the notice relates,
b. mailing or delivering a notice to every residence in the affected area, or
c. by another method provided for in a bylaw under section 606.1;
AND WHEREAS; pursuant to section 606.1(1) of the Municipal Government Act, a council may, by
bylaw, provide for one or more methods, which may include electronic means, for advertising
proposed bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings, and other things referred to in section 606;
AND WHEREAS; Council is satisfied that the alternative advertising methods set out in this Bylaw are
likely to bring matters advertised by those methods to the attention of substantially all residents of
the Summer Village of Larkspur;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Summer Village of Larkspur, duly assembled at a public meeting,
enacts as follows:
1. SHORT TITLE
This Bylaw shall be known as the "Public Notification Bylaw".
2. PURPOSE
The purpose of this Bylaw is to establish alternative methods for giving notice of bylaws,
resolutions, meetings, public hearings and other matters as required under Section 606 of the
Municipal Government Act.
3. DEFINITIONS
a. "Council" means the Council of the Summer Village of Larkspur.
b. "Municipality" means the Summer Village of Larkspur.
c. "Official Website" means the website maintained by the Municipality at
www.Larkspur.com (or current domain).
d. "Notice Board" means the publicly accessible bulletin board located at the municipal
office or another location designated by resolution of Council.

4. METHOD OF NOTICE
a. Posting the notice in a prominent and publicly accessible location on the Official
Website of the Summer Village of Larkspur;
b. Posting the notice on the Notice Board located at the Summer Village's municipal office
or other designated public location within the Village;
c. Where feasible and appropriate, distributing the notice electronically via email to
residents registered with the Summer Village's distribution list. Email notices may be
used for general information or as a supplementary method of notice. The Municipality
does not guarantee receipt by all residents and does not consider email to satisfy
formal statutory notice requirements on its own.
d. In the event of technical failure or emergency conditions that prevent use of the
website or public notice board, Council may authorize alternative notice methods as
necessary to ensure residents are informed.
5. COMPLIANCE WITH TIMELINES
All notices provided under this Bylaw shall comply with the minimum advertising timelines as
prescribed in section 606 of the Municipal Government Act.
6. SEVERABILITY
If any provision of this Bylaw is found to be invalid under provincial law, that provision shall be
severed, and the remainder of the Bylaw shall remain in force.
7. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Bylaw shall come into force and effect upon the date of third and final reading and
passing by Council.
