## TOWN OF SEDGEWICK BYLAW NO. 606/24 TOWN OF SEDGEWICK ADVERTISING STATUTORY AND NON- ## STATUTORY NOTICES A BYLAW OF THE TOWN OF SEDGEWICK, IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA, TO ESTABLISH METHODS FOR ADVERTISING STATUTORY AND NON-STATUTORY NOTICES IN THE TOWN OF SEDGEWICK WHEREAS, pursuant to section 606 of the Municipal Government Act, a Council must give notice of certain bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings or other things by advertising in a newspaper or other publication circulating in the area, mailing or delivering a notice to every residence in the affected area or by another method provided for in a bylaw under section 606.1; AND WHEREAS, pursuant to section 606. 1 ( 1) of the Municipal Government Act. a council may, by bylaw, provide for one or more methods, which may include electronic means, for advertising proposed bylaws, resolutions, meetings. public hearings and other things referred to in section 606; AND WHEREAS, the Council of the Town of Sedgewick is satisfied that the advertising methods set out in this Bylaw is likely to bring matters advertised by these methods to the attention of substantially all residents, or groups or area of the Town to which the bylaw, resolution or other thing relates, or in which the meeting or hearing is to be held; NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Town of Sedgewick in the Province of Alberta, duly assembled, enacts as follows: ## 1. PURPOSE AND TITLE - 1.1. The purpose of this Bylaw is to establish methods for advertising statutory and nonstatutory notices to the public within the Town of Sedgewick. - 1.2. This Bylaw may be cited as the "Public Notification Bylaw" ## 2. DEFINITIONS - 2.1. Act mean the Municipal Government ACT, RSA 2000, as amended. "Council" means the duly elected municipal Council of the Town of Sedgwick. - 2.2. Public means residents, groups or other stakeholders located within the corporate boundaries of the Town of Sedgwick required to be notified by the Act or a bylaw of the Town of a proposed bylaw, resolution, meeting, public hearing or other things referred to in the Act or a bylaw of the Town. - 2.3. Method means the preferred method(s) chosen by Council of the Town of Sedgewick for advertising statutory and non-statutory notices to the public. - 2.4. Town means the corporation of the Town of Sedgewick. ## 3. ADVERTISING METHOD - 3.1. The notice of any proposed bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings or other thing required to be given under the Municipal Government Act, or a bylaw of the Town, shall be advertised in accordance with the timelines prescribed in the Act of the bylaw by: - A. Publishing in a local newspaper or any other publication circulating in the Town, - B. Publishing the notice prominently on the bulletin board provided for that purpose in; - i. the Town office or - ii. any of the Town's social media sites and platforms or - C. posting the notice prominently on the bulletin board provided for that purpose in; - i. the Town offices or - ii. public library or - iii. community hall - iv. nunicipal recreational faciliti ## 4. Severability - 4.1. If any term of this Bylaw is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court or tribunal having the jurisdiction to do so, that term is to be considered to have been severed from the rest of this bylaw, and the rest of the bylaw remains in force unaffected by that finding or by the severance of that term. ## 5. Enactment - 5.1. This Bylaw shall take effect at the date of final passing thereof.
