BYLAW 2189-25
A BYLAW OF THE TOWN OF STETTLER TO ESTABLISH ALTERNATE METHODS FOR ADVERTISING
STATUTORY NOTICES.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 606 of the Municipal Government Act, a Council must give
notice of certain bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings or other things by advertising
in a newspaper or other publication circulating in the area, mailing or delivering a notice to
every residence in the affected area or by another method provided for in a bylaw under
Section 606.1;
AND WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 606.1(1) of the Municipal Government Act, a Council
may, by bylaw, provide for one or more methods, which may include electronic means, for
advertising proposed bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings and other things
referred to in Section 606 and/or 692;
AND WHEREAS Council is satisfied that the advertising method set out in this Bylaw is likely to
bring matters advertised by that method to the attention of substantially all residents in the
area to which the bylaw, resolution or other thing relates or in which the meeting or hearing
is to be held;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Town of Stettler, in the Province of Alberta, duly
assembled, enacts as follows:
Short Title
This Bylaw may be referred to as the Advertising/Public Notification Bylaw.
Definitions
In this Bylaw, unless the context otherwise requires:
a) "Detailed Notice" means a notice containing all of the information required under
Section 606 of the Municipal Government Act.
b) "Print Media" means any writer or pictorial form of communication produced
mechanically or electronically using printing, photocopying, or digital methods
from which multiple copies can be made through automated processes.
c) "Social Media" means any electronic online form of communication through
which individuals and groups of users share information and content.
d) "Statutory Notices" means any notices, including those for proposed bylaws,
resolutions, meetings, public hearings, or other things as required to be advertised
by the Municipal Government Act.
Advertising Method
Any notice required to be advertised under Section 606 and/or 692 of the Municipal
Government Act of a bylaw, resolution, meeting, public hearing or other thing may be
given, in accordance with the timelines prescribed in Section 606 and/or 692:
a) By publishing in at least one newspaper or other publication circulating in the area
to which the proposed bylaw, resolution or other thing relates, or in which the
meeting or hearing is being held; and/or
b) Electronically by posting the notice prominently on the Town of Settler's official
website; and/or
c) Electronically by posting the notice prominently on any of the Town of Stettler's
official social media sites; and/or
d) By directly mailing the notice to the necessary residents/businesses; and/or
e) By posting the notice prominently on the bulletin board provided for that purpose
in the following municipal facilities: Town of Stettler's Administrative Office (5031-
50 Street, Stettler, AB); and/or
f) Electronically via email, text, or other electronic notification through a subscribed
database established for that purpose.
Severability
Each provision of this Bylaw is independent of all other provisions. If any such provision is
declared invalid by a Court of competent jurisdiction, all other provisions of the Bylaw will
remain valid and enforceable.
Effective Date
This Bylaw shall come into force and effect upon adoption of this Bylaw.
