BYLAW 145-25
SUMMER VILLAGE OF SUNSET BEACH
A BYLAW FOR THE CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC
WHEREAS pursuant to the Municipal Government Act, RSA 2000, c. M-26, and amendments
thereto, a municipality has the authority to regulate and control vehicle and pedestrian traffic
within its boundaries;
AND WHEREAS the Council of the Summer Village of Sunset Beach deems it necessary to
establish regulations for traffic control to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and
visitors;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Summer Village of Sunset Beach, in the Province of
Alberta, duly assembled, enacts as follows:
1. TITLE
1.1 This Bylaw may be cited as the "Traffic Control Bylaw."
2. DEFINITIONS
2.1 In this Bylaw:
(a) "CAO" means the Chief Administrative Officer of the Summer Village of Sunset Beach.
(b) "Council" means the municipal council of the Summer Village of Sunset Beach.
(c) "Highway" means any street, road, lane, alley, thoroughfare, or other public right-of-
way intended for vehicular or pedestrian use.
(d) "Traffic Control Device" means any sign, signal, marking, or device placed by the
Summer Village to regulate, warn, or guide traffic.
(e) "Vehicle" means a device in, on, or by which a person or thing may be transported or
drawn on a roadway.
3. GENERAL TRAFFIC REGULATIONS
3.1 The maximum speed limit on all roads within the Summer Village of Sunset Beach shall be
40 kilometers per hour (km/h) unless otherwise posted.
3.2 No person shall operate a vehicle in a manner that is dangerous to persons or property
within the Summer Village.
3.3 No parking is permitted on any highways within the Summer Village unless it is designated
as a parking area by a sign.

4. TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES
4.1 The CAO shall have the authority to determine the location, installation, and maintenance of
all Traffic Control Devices within the Summer Village.
4.2 No person shall remove, deface, damage, or obstruct any Traffic Control Device placed by
the Summer Village.
4.3 All persons operating a vehicle or walking within the Summer Village shall obey all Traffic
Control Devices as posted.
5. ENFORCEMENT AND PENALTIES
5.1 Any person who violates any provision of this Bylaw is guilty of an offense and may be issued
a violation ticket by a Peace Officer.
5.2 The penalties for offenses under this Bylaw shall be set by resolution of Council and included
in the Municipal Violation Ticket Schedule.
5.3 Any unpaid fines may be collected through any lawful means, including adding the amount
to municipal taxes in accordance with provincial legislation.
6. SEVERABILITY
6.1 If any provision of this Bylaw is found to be invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the
remainder of the Bylaw shall remain in full force and effect.
7. REPEAL
7.1 This Bylaw Repeals Bylaw 5 as well as any other Traffic Control Bylaws.
8. EFFECTIVE DATE
8.1 This Bylaw shall come into force upon third and final reading by Council.
