--^Thorhild County Bylaw: 07-2024 Special Levy for the Maintenance of the Long Lake Community Block Wells A BYLAW OF THORHILD COUNTY IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA TO AUTHORIZE THE COUNCIL OF THORHILD COUNTY TO IMPOSE A SPECIAL LEVY TO PAY FOR A PORTION OF THE COST OF REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE OF THE HAMLET OF LONG LAKE COMMUNITY BLOCK WELLS. WHEREAS the Council of Thorhild County (hereinafter referred to as the "County") has decided to issue a bylaw pursuant to Section 382 of the Municipal Government Act Revised Statues of Alberta 2000 Chapter M-26 to authorize the imposition of a special levy to raise revenue to pay for a portion of the cost of repairs and maintenance of the community Block Wells in the Hamlet of Long Lake; AND WHEREAS the residents of the Hamlet of Long Lake will benefit from the repair and maintenance of the community Block Wells; AND WHEREAS the 2024 estimated cost for repairs and maintenance of the community Block Wells is budgeted in the amount of $107,000.00; AND WHEREAS should there be any excess net revenue at the end of the fiscal year, the excess funds will be placed in a utility reserve to be accessed by County Administration through Council resolution for the Hamlet of Long Lake; AND WHEREAS a special tax levy of $413.04 per assessable and taxable lot in the Hamlet of Long Lake will generate $80,542.80 in 2024; AND WHEREAS in order to have a special tax levy, a special tax levy bylaw must be passed by the Council of Thorhild County annually; AND WHEREAS the person liable to pay the special tax imposed is the owner of the property; AND WHEREAS the special tax levy will not be imposed on properties that are exempt from taxes as described in Section 351 of the Municipal Government Act Revised Statues of Alberta 2000 Chapter M-26; NOW THEREFORE, the Council of Thorhild County in council duly assembled hereby enacts as follows: Page 1 of 2 Bylaw 07-2024 Initials: Reeve_^ 1. Title 1.1. This Bylaw may be cited as the "Special Levy for the Maintenance of the Long Lake Community Block Wells Bylaw" for Thorhild County. 2. That the following words and phrases mean: 2.1 "Block Well" means the County operated water wells located in the Hamlet of Long Lake. 3. That for the purpose of the cost of repairs and maintenance of the Hamlet of Long Lake Community Block Wells, the sum of $80,542.00 is to be collected by way of special tax.
