## TOWN OF WAINWRIGHT BYLAW NO. 2015 - 07
A Bylaw of the Town of Wainwright, in the Province of Alberta to provide for the regulation, control and management of: vehicle traffic in school zones on highways within the town.
WHEREAS THE Traffic Safety Act, R.S.A. 2000, Chapter T-6 and amendments thereto, provides that a municipality may make bylaws to regulate, manage and control vehicle traffic in school zones located on highways within the municipality;
WHEREAS the Municipal Government Act, R.S.A. 2000, and amendments thereto, gives a municipality certain powers with respect to highways within the municipality;
NOW THEREFORE, the Town of Wainwright desires to establish and control the hours of operation for School Zones within the municipality, enacts as follows:
## 1. Title:
This bylaw may be cited as the School Zone Regulation Bylaw.
## 2. Definitions:
- a. School day means those days that students are in attendance for instructional purposes.
- b. School hours means those hours of school days as specified in Section 3 of this bylaw.
3. School zone means an area of highway within the Town of Wainwright which is identified by traffic control devices.
- d. School zone signs means traffic control devices placed for the purpose of identifying the commencement and end of a school zone and the periods of time within which the prescribed speed limits are in effect within the Town of Wainwright.
## 3. School Hours:
School hours established for the purposes of traffic control within the Town of Wainwright shall be continuous between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on school days.
## 4. School Zones:
- a. Designated school zones within the Town of Wainwright shall be delineated by the posting of school zone signs at the commencement of the school zone and at the end of the school zone in accordance with the Schedule designated by the Director of Planning & Development.;
- c. Authority to post school zone signs is delegated to the Director of Planning & Development.
- b. Authority to identify and designate the location of the school zones is delegated to the Director of Planning & Development; and
## 5. School Zone Speed:
Speed in school zones shall be a maximum of 30 kilometers per hour, during school hours.
This Bylaw comes into effect upon the date of the final reading thereof.
