BYLAW NO. 1745
A Bylaw to regulate the keeping of animals
within the Municipality
WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to regulate the keeping of animals
within the Municipality of Delta;
NOW THEREFORE, the Municipal Council of The Corporation of Delta, in
open meeting assembled, ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1.
This Bylaw may be cited for all purposes as "DELTA KEEPING OF
ANIMALS REGULATION BYLAW NO. 1745, 1971".

This Bylaw shall have reference to and shall apply to all lands and
premises within the territorial limits of the Municipality of Delta, with the
exception of those lands and premises which are presently or which may
hereinafter be, situate within the boundaries of an "Agricultural Zone" as
defined and delimited by the "Delta Zoning Bylaw".
3.
No person shall keep, harbour, or permit to remain on any lands and
premises which are held by such person as owner, tenant, occupier or
user, any greater number than six (6) in the aggregate, at any one time, of
the following adult animals:
Hamster
Guinea pigs
Tame mice
Chinchillas
Cats
Rabbits or
Any other small animals, except dogs.

4.
No person shall sell or offer to sell or display for sale turtles or viable turtle
eggs, except that this prohibition shall not apply to an educational,
scientific or medical institution.

No person shall give away or offer to give away or display for the purposes
of giving away to a purchaser of other products or items from the said
person, turtles or viable turtles eggs, which gift is to be made upon the
purchase of the other products or items from the said person.

Every person who violates any provision of this Bylaw shall be guilty of an
offence and shall be liable upon summary conviction thereof to a fine not
exceeding One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) with costs, and in default of
payment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding thirty (30) days.

The Director of Permits and Licences is hereby authorized and
empowered to enter, at all reasonable times, upon any property subject to
this Bylaw, in order to ascertain if the requirements of this Bylaw are being
obeyed.

For the purposes of this Bylaw, the "Director of Permits and Licences"
shall be that Officer of The Corporation of Delta duly appointed as such,
from time to time by the Council, and shall include his duty and every
Inspector appointed by the Council and responsible to him for the
administration and enforcement of this Bylaw.
INTRODUCED AND PASSED by the Municipal Council of The Corporation
of Delta the 11th day of January, A.D., 1971.
RECONSIDERED AND FINALLY ADOPTED by the Municipal Council of
The Corporation of Delta the 25th day of January, A.D., 1971.
