DISTRICT OF LANGFORD
BYLAW NO. 550, 2001
A BYLAW TO PROHIBIT THE POLLUTION AND OBSTRUCTION OF WATERCOURSES.

WHEREAS the Local Government Act authorizes by s.725.1 a bylaw prohibiting the pollution
and obstruction of watercourses and ditches.
The Council of the District of Langford, in open meeting, enacts as follows:
1.
Every owner or occupier of land on which is installed a device to separate silt or
petroleum products from storm water that is either retained for disposal on the land in a
rock pit, retention pond or other works, or discharged from the land into a stream, creek,
waterway, watercourse, ditch or drain, shall maintain such device in proper working
order such that no silt or petroleum product is discharged to any rock pit or from the
land.
2.
Every owner or occupier of land on which is located a storm water collection and
disposal system shall maintain it such that no silt or other substance harmful to fish, or to
aquatic plants or animals on which fish depend, is discharged from the land into any
stream, creek, waterway, watercourse, ditch or drain.
3.
No person shall discharge silt or other substance harmful to fish, or to aquatic plants or
animals on which fish depend, into any stream, creek, waterway, watercourse, ditch or
drain.
4.
Every person who is convicted of an offence under this Bylaw is liable to a fine of not
more than $10 000, and each day on which such an offence is continued constitutes a
separate offence subject to the maximum penalty specified in this section.
5.
This Bylaw may be cited as "District of Langford Watercourse Protection Bylaw No. 550,
2001".
