AMENDMENT BYLAW EFFECTIVE DATE 7546, 2012 November 13, 2012 The bylaw numbers highlighted in this consolidation refer to the bylaws that amended the principal Bylaw No. 7398, 2010. The number of any amending bylaw that has been repealed is not referred to in this consolidation. Obtainable from the Legislative Services Office 2 Doc#358429 CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF NEW WESTMINSTER BYLAW NO. 7398, 2010 A Bylaw to prohibit the sale of rabbits in retail stores WHEREAS section 8(3)(k) of the Community Charter authorizes a local government to prohibit and impose requirements in relation to animals; and WHEREAS section 8(6) of the Community Charter authorizes a local government to regulate businesses; NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the City of New Westminster ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. This Bylaw may be cited for all purposes as "Pet Store Bylaw No. 7398, 2010". BYLAW NO. 7546, 2012 2. No person shall sell or offer for sale to the public any dog, cat, pet rabbit, hare or pika in a pet store or other type of retail premises, with the exception of those animals offered for adoption from a recognized animal rescue society or shelter organization. 3. Every person who violates any of the provisions of the Bylaw shall be guilty of an offense and liable upon summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000 and the cost of prosecution. Every day that a violation continues to exist is deemed to be a separate offense.
