CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF NEW WESTMINSTER COMMERCIAL TOWING BYLAW NO. 6507, 1998 EFFECTIVE DATE: December 21, 1998 CONSOLIDATED FOR CONVENIENCE ONLY (May 9, 2013) This is a consolidation of the bylaws listed below. The amendment bylaws have been combined with the original bylaw for convenience only. This consolidation is not a legal document. Obtainable from the Legislative Services Department Doc # 56956 Page 2 CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF NEW WESTMINSTER BYLAW NO. 6507, 1998 (A Bylaw to authorize the Corporation of the City of New Westminster to carry on a commercial towing operation) WHEREAS Council is authorized by Section 176 of the Municipal Act R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 323 to: (a) engage in commercial, industrial and business undertakings on any terms and conditions it considers appropriate; (b) delegate its powers, duties and functions to its officers and employees; and (c) exercise those powers outside the boundaries of the City. THE CITY COUNCIL of the Corporation of the City of New Westminster in open meeting assembled HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. This Bylaw may be cited for all purposes as "Commercial Towing Bylaw No. 6507, 1998". 2. The Corporation of the City of New Westminster is authorized to commence and engage in the operation of a commercial towing business to provide towing and storage services for: (a) the removal of abandoned, damaged and other inoperative motor vehicles from City streets in respect of accidents, breakdowns and other such incidences of improper, accidental or unlawful use of public highways and other public places; and (b) the towing of abandoned, damaged and inoperative vehicles to storage and repair locations located both inside and outside the boundaries of the City. BYLAW NO. 7582, 2013 3. The Corporation of the City of New Westminster is further authorized to charge the fees prescribed herein as set out in the Fees and Rates Bylaw and forming part of this Bylaw for providing the towing and storage services specified therein or, where applicable, to charge the fees prescribed by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia or other Doc # 56956 Page 3 competent government authority for providing other specified towing services. 4. The Manager, Engineering Operations, is authorized to undertake all necessary steps and obtain all required licenses, permits and approvals so as to commence and maintain the operation of the commercial towing business in good standing with all regulating authorities.
