Page 256 of 291 DIVISION 350 ACCESSORY HOUSEHOLD HEN KEEPING 351 Accessory Household Hen Keeping use shall be carried out in conformity with the following: 1) Must be accessory to a permitted Single Family Dwelling use; 2) Shall only occur on a parcel of land containing one (1) Single Family Dwelling or one (1) Single Family Dwelling with one (1) Accessory Carriage House or one (1) Secondary Suite; 3) Shall only occur on a parcel of land with a minimum parcel area of 1000 m2 or greater; 4) Maximum density permitted under Accessory Household Hen Keeping use shall not exceed four (4) hens per parcel; 5) Shall be limited to the keeping of hens over six (6) months in age only; 6) No roosters shall be permitted; 7) Must be conducted entirely within one (1) Accessory Building (chicken coop) specifically designed and constructed for this purpose; 8) The accessory building for housing an Accessory Household Hen Keeping use must be fully roofed; 9) A portion of the accessory building floor area may be open to the earth in the form of an enclosed chicken run provided it is constructed and maintained in order to prevent escape of the resident hens; 10) The accessory building for housing an Accessory Household Hen Keeping use must be secured and maintained in good repair and must be constructed in a manner that prevents access to the building by any other animals or vermin; 11) Keeping of hens shall be for personal use only for a resident of the parcel; 12) The eggs collected from the hens shall be for household use only; 13) No slaughtering or butchering of hens shall be permitted on the parcel; 14) No sale of meat, eggs, manure or other products derived from the hens shall be permitted; 15) The use shall not create noise, dust, odour, or any other nuisance to any greater or more frequent extent than that usually experienced in the zoning district in question under normal circumstances where no hens are kept; Page 257 of 291 16) Manure, excess feed and other wastes shall be removed in a frequent and timely manner and disposed of in accordance with applicable City bylaws and Provincial regulations; 17) Manure for the purpose of composting must be stored within a secured enclosed structure (composting bin) and that such structure be subject to the same setbacks as an accessory building containing the household hen use; 18) No more than 0.05 cubic metres of manure may be on the parcel at any time and the storage of manure shall not create odour detectable off the property or generate nuisance; 19) The Accessory Building for housing an Accessory Household Hen Keeping use must be registered with the City on a registration form provided by the City for this purpose; 20) The Accessory Building used for Accessory Household Hen Keeping shall be subject to the following restrictions: a) Maximum of one (1) Accessory Building used for Accessory Household Hen Keeping per parcel; b) Maximum Height not to exceed 2.0 m; c) Minimum floor area of 1.5 m2 per hen to a maximum floor area not to exceed 10 m2; d) Must be sited to the rear of the principal Single Family Dwelling; 21) The Accessory Building used for Accessory Household Hen Keeping shall be subject to the following Minimum Building Setbacks: Front Lot Line Setback Rear Lot Line Setback Exterior Lot Line Setback Interior Lot Line Setback 10.5 m 4.5 m 7.5 m 4.5 m 22) The Siting Distance between a Dwelling Unit or an Accessory Carriage House on the same parcel and an Accessory Building used for Household Hen Keeping must be a minimum of 3.0 m as measured horizontally from the closest point of each structure; 23) The Siting Distance between a Dwelling Unit or an Accessory Carriage House on an adjacent parcel and an Accessory Building used for Household Hen Keeping must be a minimum of 10.0 m as measured horizontally from the closest point of each structure.
