CITY OF PRINCE RUPERT BYLAW NO. 2987 A BYLAW TO PROHIBIT THE KEEPING OF LIVESTOCK WITHIN CERTAIN AREAS OF THE CITY ________________________________________________________________________ WHEREAS pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Act, Chapter 290, R.S.B.C. 1979 and the amendments thereto, Council may, by bylaw, regulate or prohibit the keeping of various species of animals; AND WHEREAS Council deems it expedient and desirable to provide such a bylaw; NOW THEREFORE the Council of City of Prince Rupert, in open meeting assembled, enacts as follows: 1. DEFINITIONS: "Livestock" shall mean any horse, mule, ass, swine, sheep, goat, cow, or any other animal of the bovine species, and, for the purpose of this Bylaw, shall include rabbits, poultry, pigeons and doves. "Person" includes any corporation, partnership, or party, and the heirs, executors, administrators, or other legal representative of such person, to whom the context can apply according to law. 2. OFFENCE: It shall be unlawful for any person to keep any livestock within any area of the City of Prince Rupert except those areas designated "M7-SPECIAL INDUSTRIAL" as defined in "City of Prince Rupert Zoning Bylaw No. 2211, 1980", and amendments thereto. 3. PENALTY: Any person who is convicted of an offence under this bylaw is liable to a fine of not more than Two Thousand ($2,000.00) dollars, together with the costs of convictions, and a further penalty not exceeding the same amount of every day, or portion of a day during which such contravention shall continue. 4. TRANSITIONAL: Livestock Prohibition Bylaw No. 2612, 1987 as amended, is hereby repealed. 5. This Bylaw may be cited as "LIVESTOCK PROHIBITION BYLAW NO. 2987, 1996".
