A Bylaw to regulate the Keeping of Bees
WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to regulate the keeping of bees
within the Corporation of the City of White Rock. the City Council of the
Corporation of the City Of White Rock. in open meeting assembled. and pursuant
to the powers vested in it under Section 933(1)(f) of the "Municipal Act".
ENACTS as follows:
1.
It shall be the duty of every person on whose property bees are
kept to maintain the bees in such condition so as to reasonably prevent
swarming or aggressive behaviour by said bees.

It shall be the responsibility of the person on whose property

the bees are being kept to ensure that the said bees are requeened if said
bees are subject to swarming or show sign of aggressive behaviour.
No person shall keep more that two (2) colonies of bees on any
lot.
4.
No person shall:
(a)
locate a beehive within fifteen (15) feet of any property line;
(b)
hives shall be situated a minimum eight (8) feet above the adjacent
ground level or be located behind a solid fence a minimum six (6)
feet above adjacent gro~nd level and extending at least fifteen (15)
feet beyond the hive in all directions; the wall of the dwelling may
form part of the required fence.

Beehives shall only be permitted on a property that is zoned RSl

No person shall locate a beehive on a property within twenty
metres (65.6) feet of any property line that abuts an existing
multi-family dwelling other than a duplex.
The Bylaw Enforcement Officer or any other official appointed by
Council may enter at all reasonable times. upon any property in order to
ascertain whether or not the provisions of this Bylaw are being obeyed.
It shall be unlawful for any person to suffer or permit any
lands and premises to be used in contravention of this bylaw or to
otherwise contravene or fail to comply with any provision of this bylaw.

Any person who violates any of the provisions of this bylaw or
who suffers or permits any act or thing to be done in contravention of
this bylaw or who neglects to do or refrain from doing any act of thing
required by this bylaw shall be guilty of an offence under this bylaw and
shall be liable on summary conviction to a penalty of not less than One
Hundred Dollars ($100.00) and not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars
($500.00), together with the costs of conviction.

Keeping Bylaw, 1992, No. 1313".
