WHEREAS the City Council deems it expedient to adopt and update a system of street
naming and house numbering in the City;
AND WHEREAS the Council is empowered in that regard by Section 578 of the
"Municipal Act", RSBC 1979, Chapter 290;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation for the City of White Rock ENACTS
as follows: -
1.
In this By-law unless the context otherwise requires: -
"City" means the City of White Rock.
"Council" means the City Council of the Corporation of the City of White Rock.
"Street" includes Road, Avenue, Crescent, Drive, Lane, Boulevard.

All streets which heretofore have been known or designated by numbers shall cease
to be so known and shall henceforth be named as specified in Schedule "A" to this
By-law.
3.
Any subsequent alteration in an existing name, or the naming of a new highway
shall be done by by-law of the Council.
4.
Houses and lots on the Streets shall be numbered on the grid system on the basis of
eight hundred (800) numbers to each mile of distance commencing, in respect of
streets running generally in a north and south direction with the number "zero" on
the International boundary between Canada and the United States, and in respect of
streets running generally in an east and west direction with the number 13600 on
the western boundary of the City at Bergstrom Road. On streets running generally
in the north and south direction houses and lots on the west side shall have an odd
number, while those houses and lots on the east side shall have an even number;
and on streets running generally in an east and west direction houses and lots on the
north side shall have odd numbers, while those houses and lots on the south side
shall have even numbers.
5.
The owners of all houses, buildings and lots within the City must, when called
upon by the Council, have such houses, buildings and lots numbered and the
number thereon displayed in a manner to be specified by the Council.
6.
Any person who fails to comply with the terms of the immediately preceding clause
shall be guilty of an offence against this by-law and shall be liable on summary
conviction to a penalty not exceeding One Hundred Dollars ($100.00).
7.
The "Street Naming and House Numbering By-law, 1960, No. 76" and
amendments hereto are hereby repealed.

Numbering By-law, 1988, No. 992".
