## THE TOWN OF CHURCHILL BY-LAW NO. 782/2017 ## BEING A BY-LAW OF THE TOWN OF CHURCHILL TO ESTABLISH A REDUCED-SPEED SCHOOL ZONE. WHEREAS Section 98.1 of The Highway Traffic Act and the Reduced-Speed one Regulation no. 136/2013 authorize a council to pass by-laws establishi e reduced maximum permitted speed for vehicle being driven on a highw within a school zone within the geographic boundaries of a municipality. AND WHEREAS the Town of Churchill deems it advisable and in the best interests of the Town of Churchill to establish school zones with a reducer naximum speed for vehicles NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Town of Churchill duly assembled, enacts as follows; - 1). THAT this By-law may be referred to as the "Reduced-Speed School Zone By-law" ## INTERPRETATION - 2). For the purpose of the By-law, "highway", "reduced-speed school zone", "school property", "traffic control device", and "vehicle" have the same meanings as set out in the Highway Traffic Act and the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No. 136/2013. ## ESTABLISHMENT OF REDUCED-SPEED SCHOOL ZONES - 3). The following portions of highways are designated as reduced-speed school zones with reduced maximum permitted speed: - a). Name of School: Duke of Marlborough Highways included in the reduced-speed school zone: - (1) Primary Zone: Located within the length of Laverendrye Avenue which runs in front of the Town Centre Complex. The Zone is to begin 15m before the corner of Selkirk Street and Laverendrye Avenue and end 25m after the Corner of Bernier Street Laverendrye Avenue, with a maximum speed limit of 30 km/hr in the school zone. 2. (ii) Speed Reduction Zone: Located within 50m (+/-) from the beginning of the school zone on the following: Bernier Street, Franklin Street, Munck Street, Thompson Street and Laverendrye Avenue. ## MAXIMUM PERMITTED SPEED WITH REDUCED-SPEED SCHOOL ZONES - 4). The maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven in a reduced-speed school zone on a highway is 30 km/hour (thirty kilometers per hour). ## TIMES WHEN REDUCED-SPEED ZONES APPLY - 5). The reduced maximum permitted speeds established under section 4 shall apply at all times, within a reduced-speed school zone. ## TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES - 6). The Town of Churchill shall identify the presence of a reduced-speed school zone with traffic control devices that comply with the Reduced-Speed School Zone Regulation No. 136/2013.
