RIVERDALE MUNICIPALITY
BY-LAW NO. 2017-03
BEING A BY-LAW OF RIVERDALE MUNICIPALITY TO REGULATE AND ESTABLISH
A REDUCED SPEED WITHIN A SCHOOL ZONE
WHEREAS Section 98.1 of the Highway Traffic Act (C.C.S.M. c. H60) and the Reduced-Speed
School Zones Regulation No. 136/2013 authorize a council to pass by-laws establishing the
reduced maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven on a highway within a school zone
within the geographic boundaries of the municipality; and
AND WHEREAS Riverdale Municipality deems it advisable and in the best interests of
Municipality to establish school zones with a reduced maximum speed for vehicles.;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of Riverdale Municipality, duly assembled, enacts as follows:
1. THAT this By-law may be called the "Reduced-Speed School Zone By-law".
Interpretation
2. THAT for the purpose of this By-law, "highway", "reduced-speed school zone", "school",
"school property", "traffic control device", and "vehicle" have the same meanings as
set out in the Highway Traffic Act and the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation
No. 136/2013 and as may be amended from time to time.
Establishment of reduced-speed school zones
3. The following portions of highway are designated as reduced-speed school zones with
reduced maximum permitted speed:
a) Name of School: Rivers Elementary School, 530 Main Street, Rivers, MB
Highways included in the reduced-speed school zone:
1. That portion of 5th Avenue beginning at 60 ft west of Columbia Street and
continuing in a northwesterly direction to 60 ft east of Main Street.
b) Name of School: Rivers Collegiate Institute, 350 Dominion Street, Rivers, MB
Highways included in the reduced-speed school zone:
1. That portion of Dominion Street beginning 20ft North of Second Avenue and
continuing in northerly direction ending 20ft south of Fourth Avenue.
Maximum permitted speed within reduced-speed school zones

The maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven in a reduced-speed
school zone on a highway is:
a) 30 km/h

Times when reduced-speed school zones apply
5.
The reduced maximum permitted speeds established under section 4 apply as
follows:
Monday - Friday
September 1 to June 30
0800 - 1700h
within a reduced-speed school zone.
Traffic Control Devices
6.
The municipality shall identify a reduced-speed school zone with traffic control
devices that comply with the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No.
136/2013.
DONE AND PASSED as a by-law of Riverdale Municipality at Rivers in the Province of
Manitoba this 21st day of March, 2017.
