THE RURAL MUNICIPALITY OF OAKVIEW BY-LAW NO. 2022-7 BEING A BY-LAW TO REGULATE AND ESTABLISH A SPEED REDUCTION WITHIN A SCHOOL ZONE. WHEREAS Section 98.1 of the Highway Traffic Act (C.C.S.M. c. H60) and the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No. 136/2013 authorize a council to pass by-laws establishing the reduced maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven on a highway within a school zone within the geographic boundaries of the municipality; AND WHEREAS Rural Municipality of Oakview deems it advisable and in the best interests of Municipality to establish school zones with a reduced maximum speed for vehicles.; NOW THEREFORE the Council of Rural Municipality of Oakview, duly assembled, enacts as follows: 1. THAT this By-law may be called the "Reduced-Speed School Zone By-law". Interpretation 2. THAT for the purpose of this By-law, "highway", "reduced-speed school zone", "school", "school property", "traffic control device", and "vehicle" have the same meanings as set out in the Highway Traffic Act and the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No. 136/2013 and may be amended from time to time. Establishment of reduced-speed school zones 3. The following portions of highway are designated as reduced-speed school zones with reduced maximum permitted speed: Name of School: Rapid City Elementary School, 640 5th Avenue, Rapid City, MB Highways included in the reduced-speed school zone: 1. That portion of 5th Avenue beginning 260 ft west of 5th Street and continuing in a westerly direction to 100 ft east of 7th Street. 2. That portion of 6th Street beginning 100 feet north of 5th Avenue and continuing in a southerly direction until the curve turning easterly for 100 feet on 6th Avenue. Maximum permitted speed within reduced-speed school zones 4. The maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven in a reduced-speed school zone on a highway is: a) 30 km/h R.M. OF OAKVIEW PROCEDURE BY-LAW 2 _____________________ Reeve _______________________ Chief Administrative Officer Times when reduced-speed school zones apply 5. The reduced maximum permitted speeds established under section 4 apply as follows: Monday - Friday September 1 to June 30 0800 - 1700h within a reduced-speed school zone. Traffic Control Devices 6. The municipality shall identify a reduced-speed school zone with traffic control devices that comply with the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No. 136/2013.
