## THE RURAL MUNICIPALITY OF PIPESTONE ## BY-LAW NO. 2015-01 BEING A BY-LAW OF THE RURAL MUNICIPALITY to create a reduced speed zone adjacent to the Stoney Creek School. WHEREAS Section 232(1) of The Municipal Act, L.M. 1996, c. 58 - Chap. M225, provides as follows: ## Spheres of jurisdiction - the safety, health, protection and well-being of people, and the 232(1) A council may pass by-laws for municipal purposes respecting the following matters: - (a) safety and protection of property; WHEREAS Section 98.1 of The Highway Traffic Act and the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No. 136/2013 authorize a council to pass by-laws establishing the reduced maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven on a highway within a school zone within the geographic boundaries of a municipality; and WHEREAS the Council of the Rural Municipality of Pipestone deems it advisable and in the best interests of the Municipality to establish school zones with a reduced maximum speed for vehicles. NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Rural Municipality of Pipestone in open Council assembled enacts as follows: - This By-Law may be called the "Stoney Creek Reduced-Speed School Zone By-Law". ## Interpretation 2. For the purposes of this By-Law, "highway", "reduced-speed school zone", "school", "school property, "traffic control device" and "vehicle" shall have the same meanings as set out in the Highway Traffic Act and the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No. 136/2013. ## Establishment of reduced-speed school zones - The following portion of highway is designated as a reduced-speed school zone with reduced maximum permitted speed: - (a) Name of School: Stoney Creek School, East 273 feet to North 510 feet of NE 12-8-29WPM. Location of the reduced-speed school zone set out in Schedule "A" attached: That portion of road 44N beginning at point 233 meters West of the Northeast corner of NE 12-7-28 and ending 150meters east of NE 12-7-28. That portion of road 168W beginning at a point 305 meters south of the NE corner of NE12-7-28 and ending at the intersection of Road 44N and Road 168W. ## Maximum permitted speed within reduced-speed school zones - The maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven in a reduced-speed school zone on road 44N is 60km/h. - The maximum permitted speed for vehicles being driven in a reduced-speed school zone on road 168W is 50km/h. ## Times when reduced-speed school zones apply - The reduced maximum permitted speeds established under section 4 apply at all times within a reduced-speed school zone. 7. The Municipality shall identify the reduced-speed school zone with traffic control devices that comply with the Reduced-Speed School Zones Regulation No. 136/13.
