Burning in the RM of Portage Callers are to be advised of the following when they contact us about burning: 1. Call 204-239-8340 before and after the fire is extinguished. 2. No fire is to be set when winds are over 15 kph including predicted wind conditions for the next 24 hours. 3. The fire is not to be set or maintained in conditions or locations which will or could result in smoke which causes a nuisance, discomfort, a hazard or irritation to health or reduced visibility on a highway or road. 4. A fireguard as required under the terms of The Wildfires Act is to be established of a minimum six-meter wide strip of land, free of inflammable materials. 5. A means of extinguishment such as a portable fire extinguisher, an adequate supply of water, sand or some other means of controlling and extinguishing the fire is to be readily accessible and available on-site. 6. The fire is to be supervised and under control at all times. 7. People choosing to burn will bear responsibility for all property damage which may result from burning and may be subject to a fine under The Wildfires Act.
