## THE RURAL MUNICIPALITY OF RITCHOT BY-LAW NO. 2-20
A by-law to prevent the pushing or placing of snow and other matter on highways.
## WHEREAS The Municipal Act provides in part as follows:
## 225(1) -.a municipality may
- (c) . remove from a highway anything placed o naintained thereon in contravention of a by-law or otherwise without lawful authority;"
- prevent or control, or, in the discretion of council in each case, permit or license any act, or the placing or maintaining of any thing on a highway,...
## NOW THEREFORE BE AND IT IS HEREBY ENACTED:
THAT it shall be unlawful for any person in the course of snowclearing or other work on land adjacent to a highway to push onto, place, or leave any snow, ice, gravel, soil or other refuse on any portion of the highway, including the shoulder and ditch.
THAT where snow or other matter has been pushed onto, placed, or left on a highway in contravention of Section 1, the cost of removing it shall be at the expense of the owner of the adjoining land, and in order to recover such cost it shall not be necessary for the municipality to give notice to the owner prior to carrying out the work.
THAT any account payable hereunder shall carry interest at the penalty rate for taxes in arrears, and if it is not paid within 90 days of its presentation, the amount and interest may be added to the taxes payable in respect of that property.
