"animal" means domestic animal and includes dog,
cat, budgie, parrot, parakeet, hamster, gerbil, guinea
pig and fish; (animal)
"animal control officer" means a police officer, any
bylaw enforcement officer and any employee, agent
or company authorized by the City to enforce this

"bylaw enforcement officer" means the Bylaw
Enforcement Officer for the City of Campbellton or

property within the City of Campbellton and
includes streets and sidewalks, wooded area, forest,

"running at large" occurs when the animal is found
in any place other than the premises of the owner of
the animal, not secured by a leash, and is not under
the control of the owner. (errant)

GENERAL

No owner of an animal shall keep the animal in the
City of Campbellton except where that animal is
permitted under the provisions of the Zoning Bylaw
of the City of Campbellton.

by the Animal Control Officer.

Where an Animal Control Officer impounds
an abandoned animal, the Officer shall
within 24 hours notify the owner of the
animal unless such ownership cannot be

post a written notice at the premises where
the animal was picked up.

The owner of an animal which has not been
vaccinated against rabies shall cause the
animal to be so vaccinated:

No owner of an animal shall suffer or permit
the animal to defecate on any property in the
City which is not the property of its owner.

placed, on or near his property, any matter
that has the effect of attracting pigeons,

No person shall have, keep or possess more
than two (2) dogs in a household.

with the City Clerk of the City of
Campbellton on or before the 31st day of
March in each year and at the time of
registration shall pay a license fee of TEN

person has a dog wearing valid and current

At the time the dog is registered, the owner shall
provide proof of current rabies vaccination and the
dog shall not be registered until such proof is
provided.

shall cause to be delivered to the owner a
tag on which shall be inscribed the year of

owner of a current year registered and

replacement fee of FIVE DOLLARS

(1)
Every owner of a dog shall cause any dog
registered by the owner to wear a collar to
which shall be attached the tag issued under
Section 11.

Where an Animal Control Officer believes
that a dog has bitten or attempted to bite a
person, the Animal Control Officer may
initiate a complaint to a Judge of the
Provincial Court pursuant to the provisions
of the Municipalities Act.

Where an Animal Control Officer initiates

subsection (1), the Officer may seize and
impound the dog at the expense of the

dog has bitten or has attempted to bite a
person, make an order directing

The Council may establish one or more animal
pounds in addition to any general pound now or
hereafter established.

The owner of an animal which has been impounded,
upon providing ownership thereof, may reclaim the
animal during the regular business hours of the
animal shelter after providing the following:

to the municipality if the animal is a dog
which is not registered and licensed, or
providing a signed undertaking to do so

18.
(1)
Any dog which has not been reclaimed
within a period of 72 hours after being
impounded, exclusive of Statutory Holidays
and Sundays, may be sold by the pound
keeper for the best price obtainable and the
monies derived from such sale shall be
applied to the payment of the pound keeper
and the balance, if any, shall be paid to the
City Treasurer.

19.
Any Animal Control Officer may seize and impound
from any resident within the City of Campbellton a
prohibited animal provided that seven (7) days
notice has been given that such a prohibited animal
is not allowed within the City limits.

20.
Whether or not the owner of an animal impounded
under this Bylaw has the animal released as per
Section 17, that owner may still be charged with
offences under this Bylaw at the discretion of the
Animal Control Officer.

No person authorized under this Bylaw to capture
and impound an animal shall be liable in damages
for any injury or damage to such animal while the
same is being captured or impounded.

(1)
The City Clerk shall not issue a Kennel
License until he or she determines that the
property to be used and the buildings
thereon comply with all the Bylaws of the
City of Campbellton.

Clerk a license known as a "Kennel
License", and at the time of obtaining the
license shall pay a fee of ONE HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($100.00) per calendar year.

this Bylaw is guilty of an offence and is
liable to a fine of not less than FIFTY

(1)
Bylaw No. 21, A Bylaw to License Dogs,
and amendments thereto, and Bylaw No.
44, A Bylaw Relating to Animal Control,
and amendments thereto, are hereby
repealed.

Bylaw to License Dogs, et l'arrêté n° 44,
intitulé A Bylaw Relating to Animal
Control, ensemble leurs modifications.

The repeal of Bylaw No. 21, A Bylaw To
License Dogs, and Bylaw No. 44, A Bylaw
Relating To Animal Control of the City of
Campbellton, shall not affect any penalty,
forfeiture or liability, incurred before such
repeal or any proceeding for enforcing the
same completed or pending at the time of
repeal; nor shall it repeal, defeat, disturb,
invalidate or prejudicially affect any matter
