## TOWN OF CHANNEL - PORT AUX BASQUES ## PUBLIC NOTICE The following regulations have been made by the Town Council of the Town of Channel Port aux Basques under the provisions of Section 165, and any other section found enabling, of the Municipalities Act, 1990, as amended. ## SEWER BACKWATER VALVE REGULATIONS 1. These regulations may be cited as the Town of Channel - Port aux Basques Sewer Backwater Valve Regulations. 2. Interpretation: In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires: - a) "Act" means the Municipalities Act. - b) "Council" means the Town Council of Channel - Port aux Basques. - c) "Backwater Valve" means a CSA approved valve which eliminates any risk of flood due to sewer surcharge or backup. 3. The Town of Channel - Port aux Basques will not be responsible for any damages caused due to sewer backups into or upon any dwelling or structure, including residential properties and commercial establishments, should it be determined that those property owners are connected to the Town of Channel - Port aux Basques sewer system without permission or without having installed a backwater valve within their sewer system and/or connections regardless of whether the improper and/or unauthorized connection was made prior to or after the adoption of these regulations. 4. The National Building Code prohibits property owners from tying their weeping tile systems into their sanitary/sewer system and the Town of Channel - Port aux Basques will not be responsible for any damage whatsoever caused to any building or structure, residential and/or commercial, should it be determined that person's weeping tile system is connected to their sanitary and/or sewer system in violation of the National Building Code requirements. 5. All new construction within the Town of Channel - Port aux Basques must have properly installed backwater valves to prevent back flow and/or flood through sewer lines. 6. These requirements concerning sewer backwater valves and compliance with the National Building Code will be duly noted on all building permits issued by the Town of Channel - Port aux Basques henceforth. 7. These regulations were adopted by resolution at a meeting of Council held on the 10th day of June, 1997 and shall come into effect immediately. <!-- image --> <!-- image --> R. Council will not be responsible for any damages caused due to sewer backup into or upon any building that does not have a properly installed backwater valve within their system. A backwater flow valve can be purchased locally for a cost of approximately $35.00 and in many cases it is only a simple operation to have it installed onto your sewer line. Below is a diagram showing a backwater valve and the proper location to install it onto your sewer system.
