Town of Winterland is the only inland community on the Burin Peninsula.

##### Town of Winterland
Winterland is a small community between Garnish and Marystown on the ankle of the Burin Peninsula and is the only inland community on the Burin Peninsula.
In 1939 the government resettled people into Winterland from the islands around Placentia Bay. People also moved here from the Town of Garnish. In the Winterland area there were acres of land suitable for growing crops and raising livestock. Between the 1940`s and 1950`s the community started growing, and now it's the only community on the Burin Peninsula that farms. However, there is only one family in the area that still farms. The remaining people left the community to work in the surrounding area.

Tuesday, March 31 is the deadline to receive 7.5% off your tax bill if the amount is paid in full at that time.
We accept cash, cheque, Debit, Visa, MasterCard, EMT and we also take Visa and MC over the phone.

Town of Winterland Public Notice
In accordance with the provisions of the Towns and Local Service Districts Act,
Province of Newfoundland and Labrador,
the following taxes and rates are applicable
for the 2026 taxation year for the Town of Winterland.
Property Tax - 4.3 mils
Minimum Property Tax - $350.00
Water Tax - Residential - $200.00
Water Tax - Vacant Land - $100.00
Non-fixed Business Tax - $100.00
Town Quarry Tax - $500.00
Utility Business Tax - 2.5% of Gross Revenue
Building Permits (New Construction) - $20.00
Tax Certificate - $25.00
The above taxes and rates were approved by resolution of council during a meeting
of the Winterland Town Council held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
A discount of 7.5% will be applied on all property tax invoices paid in full by March 31, 2026.
The due date for all taxes is June 30, 2026.

Council meetings for 2025 are scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month @ 7pm.
Council meetings are open to the public as spectators.
Any resident wanting to address a concern to the council during a regular council meeting must have the item added to the agenda the week prior to the scheduled meeting.

Discount Allowed
112. (1) A town council may allow a discount in respect of taxes imposed under this Act for
(a) persons who pay their taxes on or before March 31 of a year;
(b) persons who provide proof satisfactory to the town council of financial hardship; and
(c) charitable and community organizations.
