HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY
ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NUMBER 47
RESPECTING THE CREATION OF THE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS
BE IT RESOLVED AS AN ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER of the Council of the Halifax
Regional Municipality as follows:
Short Title
1. This Administrative Order may be cited as Administrative Order Number 47, the
Business Improvement District Administrative Order.
Establishment of District
2. Regional Council hereby establishes the following Business Improvement
Districts:
(1) the Downtown Dartmouth Business Improvement District;
(2) the Main Street Dartmouth Business Improvement District;
(3) the Spring Garden Road Business Improvement District;
(4) the Downtown Halifax Business Improvement District;
(5) the Quinpool Road Business Improvement District;
(6) the North End Business Improvement District;
(7) the Spryfield Business Improvement District;
(8) the Sackville Business Improvement District;
(9) the Porters Lake Business Improvement District.
3. A business improvement district contains that portion of the municipality outlined
in black on a plan attached as a Schedule to this Administrative Order.
Area Rate
4. The amount of money Regional Council, from time to time, provides to carry out
those activities set out in section 70 of the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter,
S.N.S. 2008, c. 39, as amended, will be recovered by means of an area rate.
5. The area rate will be set annually by resolution of the Regional Council pursuant
to the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter.
Schedules
6. Any schedule referenced in this Administrative Order forms part of this
Administrative Order.
Effective Date
7. This Administrative Order shall come into effect on the date of adoption by
Regional Council.
