Policy Statement The Town of Mahone Bay is a family friendly organization that supports breastfeeding mothers and the right to breastfeed undisturbed in public places. The Town of Mahone Bay also recognizes that breast milk is the optimal food for health growth and development of infants. Purpose To support breastfeeding mothers to breastfeed within Town facilities and to provide the conditions, time, space and support necessary to facilitate breastfeeding by both the public and employees. Definitions Breastfeeding - Includes pumping or expressing milk, as well as nursing directly from the breast. Employee - Refers to any individual hired by the Town of Mahone Bay. Town Facilities - Refers to the Town Hall, Fire Hall, Town Comfort Stations, Swimming Pool, Visitor Information Centre. Applications Town of Mahone Bay Employees The Town of Mahone Bay promotes and supports breastfeeding and the expression of breast milk by employees who are breastfeeding when they return to work. Staff of the Town of Mahone Bay shall work with breastfeeding employees to determine mutually agreeable hours of work, assignments and breaks, which support breastfeeding practices and are compatible with other policies, where possible. The Town of Mahone Bay promotes and supports breastfeeding and the expression of breast milk by the public who are breastfeeding when they are BABY/ FAMILY FRIENDLY POLICY Clerk's Annotation For Official Policy Book Date of Notice to Council Members of Intent to Consider (7 days minimum notice) April 17, 2014 Date of Passage of Current Policy visitors to Town facilities. Staff of the Town of Mahone Bay upon request shall help visitors who wish to breastfeed their baby by providing a location comfortable for both baby and mother, where space is available. Pursuant to the Human Rights Act, staff will not ask a mother to leave the premises, cover up or suggest using a restroom to breastfeed an infant. April 17, 2014
