## POLICY PURPOSE
- 1.1 It shall be the policy of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne to have a standard remuneration policy for elected council members that clearly sets out how their annual salary is calculated and the effective date.
## POLICY DETAILS
- 1.2 (a)Effective upon the swearing-in of members of Council after the 2016 municipal election, the annual salaries of municipal council members shall be as follows, prorated for partial years and paid in bi-weekly payments according to the Municipality's usual payroll cycle:
- (b) Effective April 1, 2019, the annual salaries of municipal council members shall be as follows, pro-rated for partial years and paid in bi-weekly payments according to the Municipality's usual payroll cycle:
- 1.3 In each fiscal year thereafter, Council member remuneration shall be determined by Council with the approval of the annual operating budget, but any increase shall not exceed the previous year's Consumer Price Index (CPI), from December to December, based on the all-in Nova Scotia CPI change.

## EXTERNAL APPOINTMENTS
- 1.4 Any member of Council that is nominated by or appointed by Council to a board, commission or other position or is otherwise appointed as a representative of the municipality, shall not be entitled to any remuneration from that position, excluding reimbursement of expenses. Any remuneration to be received or that is entitled to be received by that Council member shall be paid to the municipality.
## REPEAL
- 1.5 Sections 1-6 under "Remuneration" and Schedule "B" of the Council Remuneration and Travel Policy are hereby repealed.
## COUNCIL REMUNERATION
THIS IS TO CERTIFY that the Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne duly passed the policy respecting Council Remuneration on the 20th day of October, 2016.
