BY-LAW NUMBER 2024-048
A By-law of The Corporation of the City of Barrie to
levy a special charge for the year 2024 upon rateable
property in the downtown area assessed for
commercial assessment in 2024.
WHEREAS pursuant to the Municipal Act 2001, S.O. 2001, as amended Section 204,
paragraph (1), the Council of The Corporation of the City of Barrie by by-law has established an
improvement area in the downtown of the City of Barrie;
AND WHEREAS the Council of The Corporation of the City of Barrie adopted By-law 72-126
on February 12, 1972, establishing an improvement zone in the Downtown Barrie Improvement Area;
AND WHEREAS the Council of The Corporation has included the optional classes of
industrial, commercial, office, shopping centres, and parking lots and vacant land in the commercial
property class;
AND WHEREAS a Board of Management has submitted estimates for the year 2024;
AND WHEREAS pursuant to the Municipal Act 2001, S.O. 2001, as amended, Section 208,
paragraph (1) and (2), it is required that the Council shall in each year levy a special charge upon
rateable property in the area that is in a prescribed business property class assessed for business
assessment sufficient to provide a sum equal to the sum of money provided for the purposes of the
Board of Management for that area;
AND WHEREAS by motion 24-G-076, the Council of The Corporation of the City of Barrie
deems it expedient to pass such a by-law;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of The Corporation of the City of Barrie enacts as follows:
1.
THAT a tax rate of 0.425211% be levied for 2024 in order to raise the sum of $726,434
upon commercial and industrial properties in the Downtown Barrie Business Improvement
Area.
2.
THAT this By-law shall come into force and effect upon the day of passing thereof.
READ a first and second time this 1st day of May, 2024.
READ a third time and finally passed this 1st day of May, 2024.
