BY-LAW NUMBER 2002-191
A By-law of The Corporation of the City of Barrie to
prescribe and authorize rates of speed within the City of
Barrie.
WHEREAS, in accordance with subsection 2 of section 128 of The Highway Traffic Act (R.S.O.
1990, c.H.8) the council of a municipality and the trustees of a police village may, for motor vehicles
driven on a highway or portion of a highway under its jurisdiction, to pass by by-law prescribe a rate of
speed different from the rate set out in subsection 1 of section 128 providing that such rate of speed
shall not be more than 100 kilometres per hour.
AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient that the speed limit for motor vehicles on certain
highways in The Corporation of the City of Barrie be increased:
AND WHEREAS, by Resolution 02-G-298, the Council of The Corporation of the City of Barrie
deems it expedient to pass such a by-law.
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of The Corporation of the City of Barrie hereby enacts as
follows:
1.
THAT when any highway or portion of highway set out in Schedules "A", "B", or "C"
appended hereto is marked in compliance with the regulations under The Highway Traffic Act
the maximum rate of speed thereon shall be the rate of speed prescribed in the schedule.
2.
THAT the penalties provided in subsection 14 of section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act shall
apply to offences against this by-law.
3.
THAT By-law 83-91 and all by-laws amending same be and are hereby repealed.
THIS By-law shall come into force and have effect immediately upon the final passing
thereof.
READ a first and second time this 12th day of August 2002.
READ a third time and finally passed this 12th day of June 2002.
