Office Consolidation - Snow and Ice Removal By-law 242-76 - Page 1 of 4 OFFICE CONSOLIDATION Snow and Ice Removal By-Law 242-76 (Amended by By-laws 181-82, 31-84, 253-95, 219-2019) A by-law to provide for the clearing away and removal of snow and ice from highways and buildings THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF BRAMPTON ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. The owner or occupant of land shall clear away and remove snow, ice or slush from the sidewalks on the highways in front of, along side of or at the rear of such lands by 11:00 in the forenoon of the day immediately following the day upon which the snow fell. 2. Where a building fronts or abuts on a street or is erected so near to a street that snow or ice may or is likely to fall upon the street from such building, the owner or occupant of such building shall cause the snow or ice to be removed from the building forthwith. 3. No person shall remove or cause the removal of snow or ice from a building without providing adequate warning to persons passing on the street. 4. Where the snow, slush or ice has not been removed from the sidewalk or a building as required by this By-law, the City may forthwith cause the snow or ice to be removed and the cost thereof shall be added to the owner's tax bill and collected in the same manner as municipal taxes. 5. This by-law shall not apply to the sidewalks on highways as outlined on Schedule 'A' attached hereto. 6. Any person who contravenes any provision of this by-law is guilty of an offence, and upon conviction shall be subject to a penalty of not more than TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS ($2,000.00) (181-82). 7. Administrative Penalties (Non-Parking) By-law 218-2019, as amended, applies to this By-law. Every Person who contravenes a provision of this By-law designated in Schedule A of the Administrative Penalties (Non-Parking) By-law 218-2019, shall upon issuance of a Penalty Notice be and is liable to pay to the City of Brampton an administrative penalty in the amount set out in the Administrative Penalties (Non-Parking) By-law 218-2019.
