Cockburn Island Township Landfill Policy Adopted by the Township Council, July 10th, 2024 Accepted Waste We encourage land owners to drop off all compostable materials in the designated blue bin located at the end of the road leading into the landfill. Acceptable waste includes: - General household garbage - Compostable Materials - Branches/trees (less than 5" dia) - Cardboard - Grass Clippings - Paper Products - Roofing shingles and drywall - Contact Public Works for specific instructions Unacceptable Waste To preserve our Island the following items are recommended to be removed from the Island by land owner. o Any metal items o Tires/Rims o Household Appliances o Insulation o Styrofoam o Any Hazardous Waste o Plastic o Metal Cans o Bottles o Furniture o Hot water Tanks o Glass o Animal carcasses o Oils/Gasoline etc. o Dimensional lumber o Batteries o Paint and paint cans Metal The municipality does accommodate smaller recyclable metal in the designated metal bin by the township garage. Please contact Public Works to dispose of metal in the provided bin. Note: There is limited space in the metal bin so larger pieces will not be accepted. The metal bin is transported off island for recycling so may not be available at all times. Please contact Public Works if you have any questions General If you have any questions on acceptable materials in our landfill, please contact Public Works for any clarifications before putting material in the blue bin.
