In Georgian Bluffs, a short-term rental accommodation (STRA) is generally any dwelling, or part of a dwelling, rented out for **less than 30 consecutive days**. This includes properties like: * Homes, cottages, or cabins * Apartments or condos Hotels, motels, long-term rentals (30+ days), and certain other accommodations are regulated separately. Trailers are not eligible for an STRA licence. --- Licensing Requirements As of January 2025, all STRA operators must have a valid licence to legally operate within Georgian Bluffs. Licensing ensures all properties meet standards for **safety**, **community well-being**, and **property maintenance**. Annual licences are valid from May to April. However, any changes to the property will require an inspection, regardless of the standard inspection schedule. The Renewal Process To simplify the renewal process, a step-by-step guide has been created to walk you through cloning your previous application. All attachments carried over during the cloning process must be current and accurate. If any changes have occurred, updated documents reflecting those changes must be uploaded. Please ensure that all expired documents are renewed--insurance documents, for example, are typically valid for one year and must be kept up to date. This also applies to septic system documentation. Septic inspections and pump-outs are required every five (5) years and must be current at the time of submission. Zoning and Building reviews will continue to be conducted to confirm that no unreported changes have been made to the property. Inspections will occur every other year. Properties selected for inspection must complete the inspection prior to payment. Properties not requiring an inspection may proceed directly to payment. Community Concerns & By-Law Support The 24-hour complaint hotline has been discontinued due to low usage. However, concerns can still be directed to By-law Services, who will respond and address any issues as needed. By-law Services can be reached at **519-376-2729 ext. 947**. If your concern involves an immediate danger or a legitimate emergency, please call **911** for assistance. We appreciate the continued diligence of our operators in maintaining safety and compliance, and we thank our residents for their cooperation and engagement in helping keep the community safe and respectful for everyone. --- ## Be a Good Neighbour As an STRA operator, you play an essential role in maintaining peace and safety in the community. Here are our guidelines to being a considerate and responsible neighbour: * Respect Quiet Hours - Remind guests to keep noise to a minimum, especially during overnight hours. * Parking - Ensure guests park only in designated areas and don't block driveways or emergency routes. * Waste Management - Provide guests with instructions on garbage disposal and recycling. * Pet Rules - Ask guests to keep pets leashed, minimize barking, and clean up after them. ### Operating a Safe and Welcoming STRA Safety and comfort are top priorities for guests and the community.
