# Zoning
The Municipality of Greenstone's Official Plan determines zoning by-laws to plan how we use land in our community. These zoning by-laws divide our land into different land use zones for specific uses (commercial and residential) and standards.
## Zoning by-law and maps
The current Zoning By-law for the Municipality of Greenstone was approved by Council on November 27, 2023. The Zoning By-law repeals all previous Zoning By-laws. Review Zoning By-Law 23-77 and maps for each area in the Municipality of Greenstone.

## How to re-zone
You may apply for a zoning change if you want to use or develop your property in a way that is not allowed by a current zoning by-law. This change is known as a zoning by-law amendment or re-zoning.
Before you apply to re-zone, please contact us to book a pre-consultation. We can help determine if your application can be made and provide additional information.

### Please note
You may not be able to apply to re-zone if:
* The new use is not allowed in an Official Plan
* You are changing a community planning permit by-law within five years of it being passed. However, Council can decide to pass a resolution to allow your application.
* For more information, please view the Ontario Citizen's Guide to Land Use Planning
