Under the Fireworks By-Law, the use and sale of family fireworks are prohibited within Halton Hills town boarders. This ban includes common consumer fireworks such as roman candles, fountains, ground spinners, and burning schoolhouses, though sparklers are permitted. Read By-Law 2025-0006 ## Family Fireworks Prohibited Family-style, low-hazard fireworks are prohibited in Halton Hills. The ban includes the use, sale, offer, display, purchase, distribution, possession and discharge of family-style, low-hazard fireworks. Read the updated by-law. Prohibited fireworks include, but are not limited to, consumer fireworks (such as roman candles, fountains, ground spinners, burning schoolhouses). ### **Purpose of the Fireworks Ban** Safety is the top priority for the Town of Halton Hills. Banning family-style, low-hazard fireworks: * Mitigates the risk of fires, injury and property damage * Reduces air pollution and debris * Reduces excessive noise * Protects animal habitats * Aligns with the recommendation of the Canadian Fire Chiefs Association The Town commissioned a report on the impact of fireworks on wildlife and the environment. Read the report. ### **Penalties**for Individuals and Corporations Note that when fireworks are discharged from a private property, the **property owner** is deemed to have permitted, allowed or caused their use and may face charges associated with the offence. Residents seeking additional information about fireworks are asked to contact the Fire Department at 905-877-1133. --- ## Retail Sale of Family Fireworks Prohibited The sale of fireworks in Halton Hills is prohibited per By-law Number 2025-0006. To report the illegal sale of fireworks, please contact Enforcement Services at 905-873-2600, ext. 2330 or submit an Enforcement Service Request. --- ## Display Fireworks Display-type fireworks are high-level devices that are discharged in cannon-like tubes, typically used at large public events such as the Acton Canada Day festivities. Display style fireworks are allowed in Halton Hills, but only a federally approved fireworks technician can discharge these types of devices. These fireworks can only be purchased from a licensed vendor/manufacturer after the fireworks technician has received a signed approval from the fire department. To receive the signed approval, property owners must apply through the Town's permit process per By-Law 2025-0006. The owner must submit a completed application along with payment, a copy of the technician's license and a map of the area where the fireworks will be discharged. Staff will review the documents and, if necessary, conduct a site inspection before granting the permit. Pyrotechnic-style fireworks,s typically used indoors in theatrical settings, must also follow the instructions listed for display fireworks.
