THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NORTH GLENGARRY BY-LAW NUMBER No. 26-2012 BEING A BY-LAW TO REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT WITHIN A SCHOOL ZONE ON CERTAIN MUNICIPAL HIGHWAYS WHEREAS Section 128 (5) of the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter H.8, allows a municipality, by by-law, to designate the rate of speed within a portion of a highway under its jurisdiction that adjoins the entrance to or exit from a school and that is within 150 metres along the highway in either direction beyond the limits of the land used for the purposes of the school as a school zone; and for motor vehicles driven, on days on which school is regularly held, on the portion of a highway so designated, prescribe a rate of speed that is lower than the rate of speed otherwise prescribed under subsection (1) or (2) for that portion of highway, and prescribe the time or times at which the speed limit is effective; NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF NORTHGLENGARRY HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: DEFINITIONS: 'Council' means the Council of the Corporation of the Township of North Glengarry. 'Highway' means a highway as defined in the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O., 1990 Chapter H.8 as amended from time to time. 'Motor Vehicle' means a motor vehicle as defined in the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O., 1990 Chapter H.8 as amended from time to time. 'Official Sign' means a sign approved by the Ministry of Transportation and placed or erected on a highway or elsewhere pursuant to the provisions of this by-law. 1. THAT the speed limit for motor vehicles travelling along a portion of highway described herein within 150 metres along the highway in either direction beyond the limits of the land used for the purposes of a school (school zone) be reduced to 30 kilometres per hour.
