Amended by 23-076, 23-104, 25-085, 26-062 THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PETERBOROUGH BY-LAW NUMBER 13-098 BEING A BY-LAW TO DESIGNATE A PART OF A HIGHWAY IN THE CITY OF PETERBOROUGH AS A COMMUNITY SAFETY ZONE WHEREAS Section 214.1(1) of the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, permits a municipal council by by-law to designate a part of a highway under its jurisdiction as a community safety zone if, in council's opinion, public safety is of special concern on that part of the highway; AND WHEREAS By-law 01-149 amended By-law 09-71 and established a community safety zone on the part of Weller Street between Park Street and Wallis Drive; AND WHEREAS signed indicating the existence of the community safety zone was installed pursuant to By-law 91-71; AND WHEREAS By-law 09-71 has been repealed; AND WHEREAS The Corporation of The City of Peterborough by its Council has determined that it is in the public interest to maintain a community safety zone on that part of Weller Street from Park Street to Wallis Drive in order to protect persons from injury; THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PETERBOROUGH BY THE COUNCIL THEREOF HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: ARTICLE 1 - COMMUNITY SAFETY ZONE 1.1 A community safety zone is hereby designated upon those parts of the highways within the City of Peterborough as are specified in Schedule A to this By-law. 1.2 The community safety zone shall be in effect at all times. 1.3 Upon the passage of a by-law, Council may direct the City Clerk to amend Schedule A from time-to-time. ARTICLE 2 - PENALTIES 2.1 Any person who commits an offence under the Highway Traffic Act in a community safety zone is, upon conviction, liable to pay such fine as is set out under the Highway Traffic Act. ARTICLE 3 - SHORT TITLE 3.1 This By-law may be referred to as the "Community Safety Zone By-law". ARTICLE 4 - REPEAL 4.1 By-law 01-149 is hereby repealed in its entirety. ARTICLE 5 - EFFECTIVE DATE 5.1 This By-law comes into effect on the date it receives third reading By-law read a first, second and third time this 2nd day of July, 2013. (Sgd.)
