THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKLE LAKE
BY-LAW NO. 2011-09
BEING A BY-LAW TO REGULATE THE SPEED OF
MOTOR VEHICLES ON HOWELL STREET AND
DICKENSON STREET
WHEREAS subsection 128(2) of the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, as amended,
enables the council of a municipality to prescribe the rate of speed for motor vehicles driven on
a highway or portion of a highway under its jurisdiction;
AND WHEREAS subsection 10(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25, as amended,
provides that a single-tier municipality may provide any service or thing that the municipality
considers necessary or desirable for the public;
AND WHEREAS subsection 10(2) of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25, as amended,
provides that a single-tier municipality may pass by-laws respecting the health, safety and
well-being of persons;
AND WHEREAS the highways referred to in the by-law are under the jurisdiction of The
Corporation of the Township of Pickle Lake;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Pickle Lake
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
RATES OF SPEED
1.
No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a greater rate of speed than forty (40)
kilometres per hour on any part of the following highways;
a)
Howell Street;
b)
Dickenson Street.
ENFORECEMENT AND PENALTIES
2.
Any person who contravenes any provision of this by-law is guilty of any
offence and, upon conviction, is liable to any penalty as provided for in the
Highway Traffic Act.
EFFECTIVE DATE
3.
This By-Law shall come into force and take effect on 12th day of July, 2011.
