# By-Law Enforcement County of Prince Edward By-law Enforcement Services ensures compliance with our local by-laws and, in some cases, provincial regulations. By-law Enforcement Officers rely on public education to promote acceptable standards. We encourage (and offer assistance to) neighbours to work together to find solutions. The by-law regulates fares while ensuring that vehicles for hire are operated and maintained in a safe, equitable, and sanitary manner. For more information, review the Vehicle for Hire by-law. For a full list of fees associated with getting a vehicle for hire licence, please view our vehichle for hire licence fees and fare rate. ## Parking Enforcement The Parking Enforcement By-law regulates and controls vehicle parking or stopping on highways, municipal land and private property as outlined in the County Parking By-law. ## Zoning The zoning By-law regulates permitted uses on properties, as outlined in the Comprehensive Zoning By-law. For more information on the application of the Comprehensive Zoning By-law, please visit our Planning Division page. ## Backyard Hens The backyard hen by-law regulates the keeping of domesticated female chickens on residential property in Prince Edward County. The by-law limits the number of hens per property (six within settlement zones, 10 in rural residential areas) and prohibits roosters in residential areas. The by-law also sets standards for the size, construction and maintenance of hen coops and runs, sets standards for animal care, prohibits on-site slaughter and the selling of eggs, and requires that all hens are registered with the Ontario Chicken Marketing Board Small Flock Policy. View the full By-Law to Regulate the Keeping of Backyard Hens. ## Skateboard & In-Line Skating The Skateboard and In-Line Skating By-law regulates the use of inline skates and bicycles on public sidewalks and roadways for the safety and welfare of pedestrians. More information is available in By-law 1733-2006 - Skateboard In-Line Skate. ## Mobile Canteens & Chip Wagons The Mobile Canteens and Chip Wagon By-law licenses and regulates mobile canteens (food trucks/carts), chip wagons and other refreshment vehicles. If you have questions, please call us at 613.476.2148 extension 2046. ## Signs The Signs By-law regulates temporary and permanent signage, as detailed in By-law 1122-2003 - Signs and Amending Amending By-law 1978-2007 - Signs. If you are interested in putting up new signage or renovating an existing sign, please visit our Building Division page for more information. ## Camping and Use of Parks The "Use of County parks and recreation areas" by-law regulates the use of County parks and other recreation areas such as beaches, marinas, boat launches, skate parks and more. (By-Law 78-2021) The by-law prohibits camping of any kind in County parks, beaches, and recreation areas, and the use of charcoal or wood BBQs and campfires in County parks (see By-Law 77-2021 Open Air Burning By-Law).
