THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF SMOOTH ROCK FALLS BY-LAW No. 2026-17 BEING A BY-LAW TO AUTHORIZE THE ERECTION OF A STOP SIGN AT THE CORNER OF INDUSTRIAL WAY AND FIFTH STREET WHEREAS Section 5(3) of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, provides that a municipal power shall be exercised by by-law; AND WHEREAS Section 27(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, authorizes municipalities to pass by-laws in respect of highways under their jurisdiction; WHEREAS Section 137 of the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter H.8, as amended from time to time, authorized Council of a municipality to provide for the erection of stop signs at intersections of highways under its jurisdiction AND WHEREAS Council deems it necessary and desirable to regulate traffic at the intersection of Industrial Way and Fifth Street in the interest of public safety. NOW THEREFORE Council of the Corporation Town of Smooth Rock Falls enacts as follows: 1. THAT a stop sign be erected for the east bound traffic on Industrial Way at the intersection of Fifth Street; 2. THAT the penalties provided in Section 214 of the Highway Traffic Act, 1990, shall apply to offences against this by-law; 3. THAT the designation made in paragraph 1, shall not become effective until the stop sign has been erected in accordance with legislation.
