Article 1 - Short Title
515.1.1 Citation
This Chapter may be cited as the "Snowmobile By-law".
Article 2 - Interpretation
515.2.1
Motorized snow vehicle - defined
"motorized snow vehicle" means a self-propelled vehicle designed to be
driven exclusively on snow or ice, or both.

515.2.2
Sidewalks - defined
"sidewalks" includes all such parts of a street or other thoroughfares as may
be set aside for the use of pedestrians.
515.2.3
Street - thoroughfare - defined
"street or thoroughfare" includes all such parts of a street or thoroughfare
within the corporate limits of the City of Woodstock, which are under the
jurisdiction of the City of Woodstock and shall not include city trails. By-law

Article 3 - Areas - Permitted
515.3.1
Streets - set out - limitations
No person shall operate a motorized snow vehicle on public property within
the corporate limits of the City of Woodstock except: (See Set Fine)
a)
on any street or thoroughfare; or
b)
in any other area as authorized by resolution of Council.

Article 4 - General Prohibitions
515.4.1
Operation - week nights - 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. - next day
No person shall drive or operate a motorized snow vehicle within the
corporate limits of the City of Woodstock between the hours of 10:00 p.m. of
one day and 7:00 a.m. of the next following day during the period
commencing on Sunday afternoon of any week and ending the next following
Friday forenoon. (See Set Fine) By-law 9049-16, April 7, 2016.
515.4.2
Operation - Saturday - Sunday - 12:01 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
No person shall drive or operate a motorized snow vehicle within the
corporate limits of the City of Woodstock on Saturday or Sunday of any
week between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.. (See Set Fine) By-law
9049-16, April 7, 2016.
515.4.3
Motorized Snow Vehicles Act - contravention
Motorized snow vehicles shall not be operated or driven in any of those
areas named and described in this Chapter in any manner contrary to the
provisions of the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, and amendments thereto.
515.4.4
Sidewalk - driving on - prohibited
No person shall drive or operate a motorized snow vehicle on any sidewalk
in the City at anytime. (See Set Fine)

515.4.6
Signs - no snowmobiling - erected - contravention
When signs indicating "No Snowmobiling" have been erected and are on
display in any of the areas as defined in Article 3, no person shall operate a
snowmobile on that area or portion thereof indicated by such sign or signs
erected by the Corporation of the City of Woodstock.
Article 5 - Exemptions
515.5.1
Operation - in parades - contests - approved by Council
This Chapter shall not apply to prohibit the operation of a motorized snow
vehicle on any street, thoroughfare, park or any other publicly owned
property or part thereof in the City where such motorized snow vehicle is
being driven in a parade or contest held by way of permission of the Council
of The Corporation of the City of Woodstock.
515.5.2
Operation - purposes - Corporation
This Chapter shall not apply to prohibit the operation of a motorized snow
vehicle on any street, thoroughfare, park or any other publicly owned
property or part thereof in the City when such motorized snow vehicle is
actually engaged in works undertaken by or on behalf of the Corporation.

Article 6 - Enforcement
515.6.1
Fine - for contravention
Every person who contravenes any of the provisions of this Chapter is
guilty of an offence and upon conviction is liable to a fine or penalty as
provided in the Provincial Offences Act. By-law 7139-94, June 2, 1994.
Article 7 - Repeal
515.7.1
By-laws - previous
By-laws 4616-71, 4806-73 and all other by-laws or parts thereof
inconsistent with the provisions of this Chapter are hereby repealed. By-law
6216-85, May 2, 1985.
