VILLAGE OF CRAVEN
BYLAW NO 02-2020
A BYLAW TO PROVIDE FOR ANIMAL CONTROL
The Council of the Village of Craven, in the Province of Saskatchewan enacts as
follows:
1. For the purpose of this bylaw the expression:
a) "even-toed hoofed mammals" shall mean mammals having reduced
number of functional toes and that rest their weight equally on the
third and fourth toes of each foot. Examples are but are not restricted
to: pigs, deer, cattle, sheep and goats;
b) "odd-toes hoofed mammals" shall mean mammals having a reduced
number of toes, each encased in a protective horny sheath or hoof and
the weight is carried mainly by the middle digit of each foot. Example
are but are not restricted to: horses, donkeys and mules.
c) "domesticated" shall mean to accustom animals to live near the
habitation of humans and or are kept for pleasure purposes and not for
any agricultural or business purposes;
d) "fur farm" shall mean a place where animals are bred for fur;
e) "cattery" shall mean a place where cats are bred or looked after for
profit or business;
f) "kennel" shall mean a breeding or boarding establishment for dogs
where dogs are bred or boarded for profit or business;
g) "poultry" shall mean domesticated birds kept for eggs or meat;
Examples are but are not restricted to: chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese,
pheasants;
h) "rodent" shall mean a mammal with strong incisors and no canine
teeth. Examples are but are not restricted to rabbits and chinchillas;
i) "municipality" shall mean the Village of Craven.
2. No person shall operate a fur farm within the municipality.
3. No person shall operate a cattery within the municipality.
4. No person shall operate a kennel within the municipality.
5. No person shall keep rodents within the municipality.
6. No person shall keep poultry within the municipality west of 1 Hwy 99 legal
description Pt. SW 24-20-21 W 2nd. East of this location up to 30 poultry
may be kept providing that proper housing, space and fencing is provided for
the birds and that they are not allowed to leave owner's property.
7. No person shall keep even toed hoofed mammals or odd toed hoofed
mammals within the municipality west of 1 Hwy 99 legal description Pt. SW
24-20-21 W 2nd. East of this location up to 2 horses and 1cow or beef animal
may be kept providing that proper housing, space and fencing is provided for
the animals and that they are not allowed to leave owner's property unless
properly harnessed and in control of said owner.
This bylaw comes into force and takes effect on the ______ day of
_______________, 2020.
