BYLAW 09-25
A BYLAW OF THE SUMMER VILLAGE OF BONDISS TO REGULATE TRAFFIC, SPEED
LIMITS, AND HEAVY VEHICLE OPERATION WITHIN THE MUNICIPAL LIMITS.
WHEREAS the Council of the Summer Village of Bondiss has authority under the Municipal
Government Act, RSA 2000, c. M-26, and the Traffic Safety Act, RSA 2000, c. T-6, to enact bylaws
for the purpose of regulating traffic, prescribing speed limits, and controlling commercial vehicle
operations within its boundaries;
AND WHEREAS the Council deems it necessary to update and consolidate the regulations for
the safe and efficient movement of vehicles within the Summer Village of Bondiss;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Summer Village of Bondiss, duly assembled, enacts as
follows:
1. DEFINITIONS
(a) "Council" means the Council of the Summer Village of Bondiss.
(b) "Municipal Administrator" means the Chief Administrative Officer of the Summer
Village of Bondiss or their designate.
(c) "Traffic control device" means any sign, signal, marking, or device placed, marked, or
erected under the authority of this Bylaw for the purpose of regulating, warning, or
guiding traffic.
(d) "Commercial vehicle" means any vehicle that is used for the transportation of goods,
equipment, or passengers for compensation, and any vehicle that exceeds the
weight limits as prescribed in this bylaw.
2. SPEED LIMIT REGULATIONS
(a) The maximum speed limit on Spruce Avenue, Park Drive, and Lakeview Road shall be
30 km/h.
(b) The maximum speed limit on Poplar Avenue, Birch Crescent, and from the east
intersection of Poplar Avenue and Old Timer's Drive to the north boundary of the
Summer Village shall be 30 km/h.

(c) The maximum speed limit on all other roads and streets within the Summer Village of
Bondiss shall be 40 km/h unless otherwise posted.
(d) Any person who contravenes this section is guilty of an offence and subject to
penalties under the Traffic Safety Act, as per the Provincial Offences Procedures Act.
3. TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES
(a) The placement and location of traffic control devices, including speed limit signs and
other regulatory signage, shall be determined by the Municipal Administrator.
(b) The Municipal Administrator shall maintain records of all traffic control devices,
which shall be available for public inspection during normal business hours.
(c) No person shall remove, alter, or deface any traffic control device installed under this
bylaw.
(d) Any violation of this section is an offence under the Traffic Safety Act and subject to
fines as per the Provincial Offences Procedures Act.
4. COMMERCIAL VEHICLE REGULATIONS
(a) No person shall operate a commercial vehicle on a highway within the Summer
Village of Bondiss if:
i. The vehicle exceeds the maximum allowable weight under the Commercial
Vehicle Dimension and Weight Regulation (AR 315/2002).
ii. The gross weight of all axles exceeds the posted maximum weight for a bridge
as set out by Council.
iii. The gross weight of an axle exceeds the maximum allowable weight for a
restricted highway as determined by Council.
(b) A permit may be issued for commercial vehicles exceeding the prescribed weight
limits, provided they comply with the conditions set by the Summer Village.
(c) Any person found operating a commercial vehicle in violation of this bylaw is guilty of
an offence and subject to penalties under the Traffic Safety Act.
5. ENFORCEMENT AND PENALTIES
(a) A Peace Officer is authorized to enforce this Bylaw and may issue violation tickets for
non-compliance.

(b) Any person who contravenes this Bylaw is guilty of an offence and liable for penalties
as prescribed in the Provincial Offences Procedures Act.
6. REPEAL AND EFFECTIVE DATE
(a) This Bylaw repeals and replaces Bylaws No. 02-89, 01-06, and 07-86.
(b) This Bylaw shall come into effect upon the date of final passing.
