# Safety Code Permits The Safety Codes Council is a regulatory authority that oversees the Alberta Safety Codes Authority (ASCA), which provides permit-related services in unaccredited municipalities, like the County. ASCA ensures that all individuals residing in these areas receive the same level of service and accountability as those living in accredited areas. ASCA works with accredited agencies to oversee permitting and inspection services in various disciplines, including Building, Electrical, Gas, Plumbing, and Private Sewage. They ensure standardized permit fees, uniform turnaround times on plan reviews and permit applications, timely project inspections and follow-ups, as well as streamlined and easy-to-follow applications, checklists, and templates. The Safety Codes Act requires contractors and homeowners in Alberta to obtain safety codes permits before starting work on buildings and systems covered under the Act. This includes new constructions, installations, alterations, repairs, relocations, changes of use, demolitions, and removals. If you're a homeowner or contractor in the County and are seeking construction permits and inspection services, use the project location tool available on the ASCA website to find an accredited agency.
