Speed Limits In Hamlets and Lakes Bylaw
Bylaw No. 2211
Bylaw No. 2211 of the Municipal District of Provost No. 52 in the Province of
Alberta.
A bylaw that would regulate and control the speed of any vehicle involving the
use of streets, lanes and roads within the Hamlets of Bodo, Cadogan, Hayter
and Metiskow and the Parks of Capt. Ayre Lake, Shorncliffe Lake and
Hansman Lake.
1. "driver" means a person who drives or is in actual physical control of a
vehicle.
2. "hamlet" means Bodo, Cadogan, Hayter and Metiskow.
3. "vehicle" means a device, in, on or by which a person or thing may be
transported or drawn on a highway.
WHEREAS pursuant to Section 13 of the Traffic Safety Act Chapter T-6
Revised Statutes of Alberta 2000, the Council of the Municipal District is the
"speed authority";
AND WHEREAS Council is desirous of setting speed limits within the
Hamlets of Bodo, Cadogan, Hayter and Metiskow in accordance with urban
area limits under the Highway Traffic Act;
AND WHEREAS Council is desirous of setting speed limits within Capt. Ayre
Lake, Hansman Lake and Shorncliffe Lake grounds;
AND WHEREAS the Public Works Superintendent is authorized to erect
traffic control signs throughout the hamlets and lakes in accordance with the
speed limits indicated;
NOW THEREFORE pursuant to the Traffic Safety Act Chapter T-6 Revised
Statutes of Alberta 2000, the Council of the Municipal District of Provost No.
52 enacts as follows:
1. No person shall drive in a hamlet at a greater rate of speed than 50
kilometers per hour.
2. "playground zone" means a zone on a street indicated by a traffic control
sign as an area where children
a. may be expected to be on the highway, or
b. are permitted to cross the highway.
3. No driver shall drive within a playground zone in a hamlet
a. at a rate of speed greater than 30 kilometers per hour between the
hours of 8:30 a.m. and one hour after sunset.
4. No driver shall pass or attempt to pass a vehicle moving in the same
direction as he is in a playground zone when the speed limit is in effect.
5. A playground zone
a. begins where there is a traffic control sign indicating the
playground zone, and
b. ends where there is a traffic control sign indicating a greater rate
of speed or end of the zone.
6. No driver shall drive within the grounds of Shorncliffe or Hansman Lake
at a speed greater than 15 kilometers per hour at any time.
7. No driver shall drive within the grounds of Capt. Ayre Lake at a speed
greater than 15 kilometers per hour at any time.
THIS BYLAW WILL RESCIND BYLAW NO. 2211.
