Firefighters in Burns Lake respond to various incidents such as structural, wildland and vehicle fires, water/ice rescues, vehicle extrications, carbon monoxide and fire alarm calls, as well as medical aid calls. Burns Lake Fire Rescue is a "Full-Service" department, trained and certified to the NFPA 1001 certification level. This is the highest level of training for structural firefighters and is recognized North America wide. In addition the members of the fire department are trained in wildland firefighting and First Responder medical. The Fire Department also conducts fire safety inspections on all commercial occupancies. Fire Fighters also respond to and resolve citizen complaints and concerns regarding fire safety and are very active in public education. As part of the public education program, inspectors conduct training sessions to increase awareness and demonstrate proper use of fire extinguishers, fire evacuation, and other fire safety issues.
